We use prescribed burns to restore the natural prairie cycle in the park. Careful removal of non-native and invasive species helps grasses and wildflowers flourish. As these native plants return, Texas pollinators such as bees, bats and hummingbirds return, as well.

Lake Arrowhead State Park is 524 acres in Clay County, about 15 minutes southeast of Wichita Falls. The state acquired the area in 1970 from the city of Wichita Falls under the State Parks Bond Program. The park opened the same year. Like most lakes in Texas, Lake Arrowhead is a man-made reservoir.

Lake Arrowhead is recognized as a premier white crappie lake. Be prepared to share the water with many other anglers in spring, when limits of nice-size crappie are caught in the lower half of the reservoir.
