Beginning the first weekend in May until the last weekend in October, the fort is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 4pm. The fort hosts special programs throughout the summer (see the Events page). Additionally, group tours are available on weekdays (see below). Parking Secured, on-site parking is free! This new fort would be Detroit’s third, yet its first to be built by Americans. The city's original fortress, Fort Pontchartrain du Detroit, was established by the French near today's Hart Plaza shortly after Antoine Cadillac's landing in 1701.

The Historic Fort Wayne Coalition was formed in 2004 by a group of individuals from all walks of life who share one common goal - to be a positive force for the restoration and promotion of Detroit's Historic Fort Wayne.
