The reason why Lionel Messi and Inter Miami team-mate Jordi Alba have been suspended for their club’s next MLS fixture has been revealed. The pair will be suspended for their next game against FC Cincinnati on Saturday after missing Wednesday’s MLS All-Star Game against Mexico’s Liga MX without approval from the league.

Messi and Alba were Inter Miami's All-Star selections, but per MLS, they will not take part in the game set to be played on Wednesday in Austin, Texas.

Lionel Messi will miss the Major League Soccer All-Star Game against Liga MX on Wednesday night. Messi's teammate at Inter Miami, Jordi Alba, will also miss the game. An MLS spokesperson said Inter Miami informed league officials that the two players will not appear in the match at Q2 Stadium.
