The Pentagon’s deployment of about 700 Marines to Los Angeles to join the National Guard’s response to immigration protests follows weeks of rapid-fire developments as President Donald Trump pursues his top domestic priority for mass deportations.

President Trump said Tuesday the deployed National Guard members will leave Los Angeles “when there’s no danger.”

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin called the decision "deeply disturbing," accusing state officials of siding with criminals over public safety.
