Some wounds suffered by six Hawaii residents flown to Arizona for medical treatment after a deadly illegal fireworks explosion on New Year’s are comparable to battlefield injuries

A three-year-old boy on Monday became the fourth person to die of injuries stemming from a massive explosion of fireworks a Honolulu home on New Year's Eve, police said. The blast also killed three women and injured more than 20 people,

The measure would categorize less than 25 pounds as a low-level offense, compared to the current weight increments, which have been hard to prove in court. The legislation would also increase the penalties for those who seriously injure or kill someone while using illegal fireworks.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green on Monday proposed a range of new penalties to crack down on those who flout the state's fireworks laws, nearly two weeks after a fireworks explosion at a Honolulu home on New Year's Eve killed four people and injured about 20 others.
