During his senior year of high school, before forgoing college and going straight to the NBA where he would be drafted by his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, James was choosing between Nike, Reebok and Adidas for his shoe deal. Reebok flew James and his mother out to a meeting with their CEO where they drove a hard bargain with the teenager.

While he eventually signed with the swoosh, James told NFL brothers Travis and Jason Kelce on their podcast New Heights that he was almost swayed by Reebok, who were offering to pay him US$100 million. "It was not always Nike, I took on three pitches," James said.

Bron ended up siging with Nike for $87 million in 2003 which later turned into a lifetime deal worth $1 billion.
