The accolades keep coming for Pat Surtain II. The Broncos star cornerback was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America on Wednesday. He is the first Denver player and fourth cornerback to win the award since it was instituted in 1992.
While Surtain is the first Alabama alumnus to win the PFWA’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, former Crimson Tide running backs Shaun Alexander with the Seattle Seahawks in 2005 and Derrick Henry with the Tennessee Titans in 2020 were the PFWA NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
