Two Powerball tickets sold in Indiana and Ohio won millions of dollars, but just missed the $238 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The tickets matched five winning Powerball numbers, but not the Powerball, in the drawing Wednesday, Jan. 8, the national Powerball site said.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Two Connecticut Lottery tickets won big prizes in recent Powerball drawings. A Windsor Locks resident claimed $100,000 in winnings, and another won $150,000.
