Following the escalation of the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, US President Donald Trump has urged both parties to agree to a ceasefire and was optimistic that this could come about soon. "Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the War with Thailand.

The breakthrough came after Mr Trump said that Thai and Cambodian leaders were willing to “quickly work out a ceasefire”. The US president said on Sunday he had threatened to pull out of deals to reduce tariffs on both nations unless they agreed to stop fighting.

President Trump threatened to withhold potential trade deals from Thailand and Cambodia amid a border conflict that has displaced tens of thousands of civilians and left at least 32 people dead.
