Earlier this month, Trump set a 50-day deadline for Russia to accept a ceasefire. Failure to do so, the president said, would prompt punishing new economic measures, among them secondary sanctions on nations doing business with Moscow.

At least 22 Ukrainians have been killed and another 85 injured in Russian strikes across the country overnight, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for “very harsh, truly painful” sanctions on Russia.

The overnight attacks came a day after President Donald Trump expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin and brought closer the deadline for a ceasefire.
