President of baseball operations John Mozeliak is prepared to wait out contending teams as he fields interest in Maton, closer Ryan Helsley and set-up men Steven Matz and JoJo Romero. All but Romero will be free agents at the end of the year; he has one remaining year of team control.

Regardless of how far the Cardinals go at the deadline, if it's a full-blown fire sale or a soft sell, Maton is likely to be involved. He's a stereotypical rental reliever and would make for a solid deadline pickup from a team looking to contend this season.
