Hazleton Area has become one of the 10 largest school districts in Pennsylvania and is growing faster than others in the top 10. For the 2023-24 year, Hazleton Area ranked ninth with 12,609 students.
In 2009, Hazleton Area required five proofs of residency, but reduced that to three in 2011 after being challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania and the ARC of Luzerne County.
Perkiomen Valley’s combination of size and skill, with two six-footers both well on their way to Division 1 careers, was something Hazleton Area hadn’t seen before this season.
