President Biden was set to meet with Pope Francis on Friday, but canceled his foreign trip to remain in the U.S. to oversee the federal government's response to the California wildfires.

Biden, who is only the second Catholic president in U.S. history, spoke with the Pope by phone on Saturday to tell him he was a recipient of the medal, which is the highest civilian honor.
