This is nearly the exact measurement of rainfall that fell over San Antonio in a small window of time Thursday morning, causing a wave of water to sweep a creek and sent San Antonio residents to their death.

The search is underway for two people who were swept away by floodwaters in San Antonio, Texas. Heavy rain caused flash flooding across the city, killing at least five people according to officials. TODAY’s Al Roker tracks the forecast.

High-water rescues have taken place in San Antonio after torrential rain and thunderstorms pounded Texas over the past few days, and now the threat if shifting to the Houston area. FOX Weather Correspondent Katie Byrne was in Houston on Thursday morning with the latest on the conditions.

Residents across Central Texas are left with with damaged property after the area experienced record-breaking rain, dangerous winds and a short-lived tornado on Thursday, June 12. Several towns, many of which are in the San Antonio metropolitan area, are also experiencing flash flooding, resulting in a number of road and river closures.

Slow-moving storms could result in flash flooding across parts of Central and South Texas. Hail and strong winds are possible, too.
