MINNEAPOLIS — A few inches of snow fell across Minnesota and Wisconsin after a snow storm Friday night into Saturday. Some areas saw more than five inches of snow, but this winter's total remains well below average through early February.

Much of Minnesota got some snow on Friday night and Saturday morning with the third snow system that moved through the state this week.

A winter storm that arrived in Minnesota late Friday and continued through much of Saturday dropped up to 9 inches of snow in the state. As the totals are tallied on Sunday, the leader so far is the 9 inches that fell in Mora, Kanabec County, while 8 inches fell in the Anoka County cities of Andover and Ham Lake.

Despite the frigid temperatures so far this winter, the amount of snowfall in Minnesota is still significantly below average.

Prior to Wednesday night's snowfall, St. Cloud had recorded 3.1 inches of snow so far in February. We were 1.7 inches above normal for the month so far. For the season, St. Cloud had 16.8 inches of snow before Wednesday night's snow.

The first shot of snow arrives Saturday. It won't be much in the Twin Cities, but some locations in central or east-central Minnesota could get a few inches. Winds will also be gusting over 30 mph, so blowing snow could be an issue on the roads.

A storm system is set to arrive in Minnesota late Friday, likely bringing several inches of snow for the Twin Cities.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph could further complicate travel, leading to reduced visibility and blowing-snow hazards.

A winter system brought moderate snowfall to central Minnesota and parts of the Twin Cities early Monday, with the latest totals approaching 5 inches. Snow started Sunday evening and grew heavier in the early hours of Monday, causing dozens of crashes across the state during the morning commute.
