President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania will visit Kerrville on Friday, one week after Central Texas floods killed over 100 people.

President Trump and First Lady Melania met with families in the Texas Hill Country. He praised first responders amid tense talks on flood disaster response.

During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Trump did not mention those plans and instead praised the federal flooding response. Turning to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose department oversees FEMA, he said, “You had people there as fast as anybody’s ever seen.”

Multiple parts of Central Texas, including Kerr County, were shocked by flash floods Friday when the Guadalupe River and others rose rapidly.

Swift water rescue technicians from the Shreveport Fire Department have been in Kerrville, Texas for six days now. They were sent there to respond to the catastrophic Fourth of July flooding that happened in the Texas Hill Country.

The president has defended his administration's response to the fatal flooding amid criticism that federal assistance could have been provided more quickly.

Mr. Trump and Melania Trump met with victims’ families and viewed some of the aftermath of last weekend’s flooding.
